The Only Game in Town, Peter Hagoort (Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics)
The Memory, Unfication and Control (MUC) model is the only neurobiological model that comes close to the Parallel Architecture proposal of Jackendoff. In my presentation I will sketch the similarities between the MUC and the PA model, as well as its neurobiological grounding. I will also show how the PA model could be extended in a multimodal direction, to accomodate the empirical evidence. Finally, I will argue that the PA is the only linguistic theory with a plausible account for the empirical evidence on the neurobiological basis of language. So far, it is the only game in town.
